Gun toting man arrested
Mamelodi police have arrested a man who threatened to shoot his former girlfriend.
Police have arrested a gun-toting man on Friday after he threatened to shoot his former girlfriend on Thursday evening.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Michael Mbewe said the complainant alleged she was forced to get into a car driven by her former boyfriend who was travelling with a companion on Thursday evening.
“It is believed they met her in the street and asked her to get into the car. Once she was inside the car her former boyfriend suddenly produced a firearm and threatened to kill her,” Mbewe said.
He said the motive of this incident is still unknown to the police.
“A case of pointing a firearm was opened at the police station. Thereafter, police immediately launched a man-hunt for the man.”
“The 34-year-old man was arrested early Friday morning in Phase 5 Mamelodi East. A 7.65 pistol and live rounds were confiscated,” said Mbewe.
“An additional charge for possession of an unlicenced firearm is being investigated. The man will appear in the Mamelodi Magistrates Court soon.”
