Two arrested for drugs
Metro police say they will make more arrests to fight the drug problem in the community.
Tshwane Metro police department say they will make more arrests to fight the drug problem in the community after information was received about people selling drugs at the Gautrain bridge in Lyttelton.
Two men aged 30 and 53 were arrested on Friday night in possession of drugs amounting to R5 550.
“We followed up on information given to us about the selling of drugs at a Gautrain bridge in Lyttelton and two men were arrested for possession of and dealing in drugs,” Tshwane metro police department spokesperson, Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said.
He said the men will appear in court next week.
“We are aware drugs are a problem to society, so we have established a team in the metro police to deal with this problem,” said Mahamba.
“We will continue to fight the drug problem and ask the public to come with any information that will help the metro police arrest perpetrators.”
He said the metro police had started a campaign where they visit certain areas and talk to people about drug-related problems.
“People with any information should contact us. Information given to the police are kept confidential and we keep informers anonymous,” said Mahamba.
