A total of 49 people were arrested on Wednesday during operation Fiela. All 49 ‘security guards’ were detained after there was found that none of them were lawfully registered with PSiRA.

The suspects, who are not qualified or registered with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority, were brought in to the Pretoria North police station.

Police spokesperson Rebecca Phatlane, says some of the men were working as security guards, in charge of safeguarding people’s motor vehicles and other property.

Police warn it is a punishable offence when people do not register themselves or their security companies.
