Fake charity workers arrested for stealing
Two women and a man were arrested for robbing a man of his cellphone.
A man and two female accomplices have been arrested on suspicion of robbery and possession of stolen property.
Hercules police station spokesman Captain Bonginkosi Msimango said the two women, posing as workers for a charitable organisation, pretended to be collecting donations.
“They approached a man in Mountain View with their story,” said Msimango. “Afterwards they asked him for his cellphone to put a sticker on it that would identify him as a donor.
“Pretending the stickers were in a car parked nearby, the women walked to a Toyota Tazz with a male occupant behind the steering wheel.
“But when the women got into the car, the male drove off with the victim’s Sony Ericsson E3 phone worth about R2 500.”
Msimango said the three, aged between 22 and 24, were arrested on Wednesday and in their possession the cellphone was found.
The three will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s court soon on charges of robbery and being in possession of stolen property.
