Laudium cop shot and killed in Atteridgeville
A Laudium police officer was mysteriously killed on Friday night in Atteridgeville.
Yet another city police officer has been shot and killed while off-duty on Friday evening.
Provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Mashadi Selepe said the 37-year-old constable’s vehicle was parked when two unknown men and a woman approached him around 20:00 in Atteridgeville.
“They walked up to him and shot him in the upper body. He was rushed to Kalafong hospital,” she told Rekord.
She said the officer from Laudium police station died while doctors were treating him. Selepe said police were investigating the exact details of the murder.
“It’s still a bit sketchy. We are investigating yet another murder of a police officer. No arrests have been made.”
Laudium police spokesperson Captain Reed Steynberg said Laudium police were devastated by the tragic news.
“The members are not taking this well and will be receiving counselling. The constable was supposed to work night shift tonight [Saturday],” said Steynberg.
She said the officer and his wife were expecting twin babies.
“It is terrible. His wife was supposed to have her baby shower today [Saturday] and now those children will have to grow up without a father. Laudium police sends their deepest condolences to his wife and family.”
In an unrelated shooting two officers were shot on Friday night in Hillbrow, Johannesburg.
One was killed and the other wounded. “This means three police officials have been shot within a six hour period in Gauteng,” said Selepe.
