Rare engraved skull stolen from Ripley’s exhibition
A rare skull from the Ripley’s Believe it or not exhibition has vanished.
A historical engraved skull from the Ripley’s Believe It Or Not exhibition at The Grove mall has been stolen.
Marketing manager of the mall, Pierre Botha, said the Dyak engraved skull had been an extremely rare example of the carved trophy skulls once worn as necklaces by Dyak head-hunters in Borneo.
He said all artifacts had been display in safe cabinets throughout the exhibition. However, on 15 August, the mall realized the artifact had vanished.
“As one of the preferred malls in Pretoria, we are a little disappointed that someone of the public removed the Dyak engraved skull, but of course we trust that this person will take special care of it.”
He said they went to a lot of trouble to keep all the artifacts safe without compromising the public’s enjoyment.
Kristi Maree, managing director of Ripley’s Entertainment in South Africa, said they trust the public would help to recover the stolen artifact. “We want to provide a display of the entire collection to the public for the remainder of the Ripley’s Believe it or not South African tour.”
Botha said The Grove mall would be offering a reward for information leading to the recovery of the Dyak engraved skull.

The Ripley’s Believe it or not exhibition comes to an end on Sunday before it moves to Highveld mall in Witbank.
