Car damaged after attempted theft
Student has been saddled with huge costs after thieves damaged her ride in an attempted theft.

A student’s car was badly damaged when thieves tried to steal it from outside a DVD shop in Pretoria Moot.
Tyler van Heerden had parked outside the DVD shop for a “few minutes” and when she returned she noticed her car window was down.
“I had left the car locked in the parking,” she said. “It seemed my window had been pushed down and the car unlocked from the inside.”
But as she tried to start the car, she was shocked to discover that the ignition was missing.
“It appeared as though they tried to bypass the ignition, to try and steal the car,” Van Heerden said.
She said the gearbox was also was broken and there was damage to the bonnet… it appeared the thieves had tried to get to the engine to hot-wire the car.
Van Heerden had to rely on an eyewitness for some answers.
“The witness told me she saw men near my car, but did not want to approach them as she could not see a security guard,” said Van Heerden.
Instead, the witness rushed to locate a guard.
“But when she returned with a security guard, the men had gone,” said Van Heerden.
Van Heerden’s car, a VW, had been a gift to her last August.
The witness said that she saw a ‘long silver vehicle’ pull up next to her blue Volkswagen Golf.
“I am glad my only transport was not stolen, but I will now have to save for costly repairs,” she said.
