MEC visits slain police officer’s family
MEC of Community safety visits the family of slain Laudium police officer to offer her condolences.
Gauteng community safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane has visited the family of the police officer who was gunned down in Atteridgeville on Friday night.
“The MEC was visiting the bereaved family to extend condolences and to provide with an update on the case,” said his spokesperson, Thapelo Moiloa.
Constable Ronald Baloyi was a police officer at the Laudium police station. His alleged killers were arrested on Sunday afternoon at the Bosman Taxi rank, but one of them escaped om Tuesday aftrernoon after appearing in court.
Moilola said Crime Line had sourced donations from the community and would contribute R10 000 towards the burial.
“From the side of the police, there is also help in terms of the official burial, and others things.”
Moiloa said the Gauteng city region was in the process of establishing a Task Team of senior officers to examine the recent spate of police killings.
The team would seek to determine whether these were sporadic attacks, whether they were related to a bigger group, and what actually triggered police killings in the first place.
“They will be reporting to highly-trained members. Within two weeks, the team will have been established and start operating,” said Moiloa.
