Residents oppose bail against a foreigner
Residents want the Tuckshop closed.
All hell will break loose should bail be granted to a suspected Mamelodi child rapist, angry residents warned this week.
They made their feelings known when the man accused of the crime applied for bail in the Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
The 38-year-old Somalian is accused of kidnapping and raping a five-year-old girl at his Mamelodi tuckshop on August 4. His bail application was postponed to Friday and he remained in custody.
Residents and members of the ANC Women’s League demonstrated outside the court.
It is believed the minor went to buy bread at the tuckshop when the accused allegedly invited the girl inside the Tuckshop and raped her.
Residents caught him and called the police. Several of them demanded afterwards that foreign tuck shop owners be thrown out of their area.
Some said the accused had always been asking women customers for sex.
The girl’s grandmother noticed something was amiss when her granddaughter returned from the tuck shop.
“She told me that the shop owner hurt her private parts, I looked at her panty and it was covered with blood,” recalled the grandmother who asked not to be named.
