Sunnyside rapist Clive Eman Tinambo (30) was sentenced on Monday to two life sentences in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court for raping a 13-year-old multiple times, police said on Friday.
Spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach said: “In 2011, Tinambo raped a 13-year-old girl on two different occasions in Sunnyside. Tinambo raped the girl for the first time when she ‘skipped school’, he threatened the girl that he will tell her mother about it [skipping school] if she reports the rape to anybody. Tinambo impregnated the girl during the second rape and took her for an abortion.”
Weilbach said the girl told her brother who helped her report it to the police.
“In 2012, he was rearrested for failing to comply with bail conditions [set in the rape case]. Along with his two life sentences, Tinambo is also listed in the register for sexual offenders and he is declared unfit to possess a firearm,” she said.
The Sunnyside cluster commander, Major-General Jimmy Ledwaba commended the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Pierre Botha, for a job well done.
Major-General Ledwaba said this was the outcome of commitment and hard work of a dedicated investigating officer.
“The combating of crimes against women and children is a priority of the SA Police Service and the Sunnyside cluster made it a renewed priority during Women’s Month. This sentence will certainly help deter people from committing such crimes.”
Botha said he was a father himself and therefore welcomed the harsh sentence.
He said his work — fighting injustice against women and children — was a calling.
