A 24-year-old man was arrested for armed robbery and rape earlier this week, in Libanon, Mabopane.
Police spokesperson Constable Herman Moremi said two petrol attendants, a male and a female, were robbed at gunpoint by two men.
“It is alleged that the men went to the Engen garage in Libanon at midnight where two employees were on duty. The two men pointed firearms at them and tied up the male attendant. The men then held the female worker [down] and raped her,” he said.
Moremi said the two men fled the scene with the victims’ two cellphones and bank cards.
“When the police later visited the scene, together with the male victim, they saw one of the men approaching the Standard Bank ATM. He was identified by the victim [as the robber] and the police arrested him immediately. The police took him to his house and there, they found the firearm and bank cards,” said Moremi.
Moremi said the other robber was still at large.
The arrested man will appear in the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court soon.
