Police take down child porn ring

Four nabbed for child pornography distribution.

Police have bust a child pornography ring with international connections in the west of Pretoria on Tuesday, after a tip off by Belgian authority.

The two men and a woman aged between 41 and 56 years of age appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court today and the case was postponed to tomorrow.

Two more men were arrested, one in Cape Town on Wednesday night and another in Belgium.

The Capetonian, a 47-year-old broker was expected to appear in the Simon’s Town Magistrate’s Court today.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo said the local investigation was led by a team of detectives from the Gauteng Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit He said the four [South Africans] produced pornographic material depicting minors, all of whom were South African.

Police have sent six cell phones, a laptop, four desktops and three USB drives confiscated from the Pretoria and Cape Town homes of the suspects for analysis.

“The four suspects were part of a syndicate involved in the production, possession and distribution of pornographic material,” Naidoo said.

He warned parents to keep a vigilant watch on how their children used cellphones and social media.
