Stolen bank cards found after police chase
A high-speed police chase ended in the arrest of three men who had nearly 300 suspected stolen bank cards in their possession on Thursday.
A video clip of a high-speed police chase in Centurion had social media abuzz on Friday morning.
The chase ended in the arrest of three men near the Jean Avenue off-ramp in Centurion on Thursday afternoon. They were caught with suspected stolen bank cards in their possession.
Police spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach confirmed the arrest.
“The police received word to be on the look-out for a brown Toyota Hilux bakkie travelling on the N14 in the direction Pretoria,” she said.
“The vehicle was reported as being suspicious. Lyttelton police responded and pulled the vehicle over at the Jean Avenue off-ramp.”
Weilbach said the vehicle and its occupants were searched. Police seized 228 Capitec bank cards.
“The men are all from Soshanguve, aged 57, 42 and 38. The trio will appear in court soon.”
The police once again urged people to report unusual activities the 10111 emergency-number.
Information on crime could be given to the police anonymously by phoning 08600-10111 or by sending an SMS to 32211.
“Assist the Gauteng police to fight fraud, corruption, unethical behaviour that could be detrimental to our success,” Weilbach said.
