Old tree wrecks wall and house

Tree falls over and takes out wall in Waterkloof Ridge.

An old silver oak tree fell over onto a house in Waterkloof Ridge on Friday morning.

The large tree came down on the house at 05:00 on Friday, taking out a boundary wall and also damaging a garage in the process.

Democratic Alliance ward councillor Bronwynn Engelbrecht said Tshwane metro responded within minutes to start cutting up the tree.

“The parks department will investigate what happened, because the implication is we will have to look at the other trees in the area,” said Engelbrecht.

“These trees are our heritage, especially the beautiful silver oaks in this area. Tshwane and I will do everything we can to support the family with repairs and insurance.”

Fortunately no one was injured when the tree fell over.

“All things considered, it fell in the best spot it could’ve,” said Engelbrecht laughing.
