Ridiculously low TMPD annual targets
The DA says the annual targets set for the TMPD are ridiculously low in a metro that is crime ridden.

The DA has described as ‘truly shocking’ revelations made in a council performance report which showed the Tshwane metro police (TMPD) did very little or nothing to deal with crime and law enforcement.
DA councillor Karen Meyer said the metro strategies and performance management department’s performance report showed TMPD had an annual target of road policing interventions of only 732.
“This means there are only two interventions per day. This comes at a time when statistics show more and more people die daily on our roads,” said Meyer.
That was not all, said Meyer. “The report also stated the number of multi-disciplinary by-law policing operations have an annual target of only 468.
“This means 1.5 interventions per day. How is this possible?” said Mayer.
She added this meant only one officer had to do something per day in the whole of Tshwane.
“Residents complain daily to ward councillors about the lack of by-law enforcement. The excuses used for not addressing them [complaints] are lack of staff and/or transport.
“The truth is no one cares to do more than the set target,” said Meyer.
The report also indicated “the number of crime interventions in the metro shows an annual target of 1 440. This means 3.9 interventions per day”.
Meyer said this meant the entire metro police was being utilised for an average of only 3.5 interventions per day.
“This is a disgrace, a shame, an embarrassment, scandalous and utterly unacceptable,” said Meyer.
She called on the chief of the metro police to “hang his head in shame, beg for forgiveness from the residents and, lastly, resign”.
Enquiries sent to the Tshwane metro were referred to the TMPD spokesperson senior superintendent Isaac Mahamba who had not responded to Rekord at the time of going to print.
