Centurion residents without water

Some parts of Centurion without water after a major pipe burst on one of the water supply pipes in the city.

Some parts of Centurion have been battling with their water supply since Thursday.

Hospitals and old ages homes were also affected, said Clive Evans, vice chairperson of the Lyttleton CPF.

He told Rekord  the water supply was hit as pipes were being repaired.

“A tanker has been sent to Unitas hospital, where residents could fetch water if necessary.”

The Tshwane metro has posted a notice on its Facebook page about the problem.

The metro said its bulk water division experienced a major burst in one of the water supply pipes to the city.

“Our customers in Centurion, Die Hoewes, and Lyttelton extension experienced a drop in pressure due to the fact that the water supply to the higher lying areas will be switched to the reservoir pressure,” it said.

The metro said the pipe affected could only be isolated on Friday morning.

Repairs had started and it was unclear when they would be completed.

Tshwane said water would be available at a low pressure in the system, but residents were requested to use water sparingly to conserve the reservoir.

The metro apologised for the inconvenience.
