What is Vutha? – Sangoma tells

Traditional healer from Mamelodi explains what Vutha the mysterious fire is.

Mysterious fires known as Vutha do exist, Mamelodi traditional healer Solly Mathebula said this week.

“Vutha is a mixture of herbs that is used to make fire or can be used to send to someone by only calling his or her name to destroy your belonging or kill you.”

Mathebula was approached after the death of five-year-old Calvin Shaku in a shack fire last week.

His father Seoka Malesa claimed that his son was bewitched because of the mysterious way their shack caught fire.

Mathebula said: “Coming to the child I suspect foul play. The boy’s ancestors should have protected the little boy especially because his mother was busy training to become a sangoma.”

Mathebula advised the family to get a second opinion to find out what really happened to their child.

Malesa said his son was sleeping in a bedroom when he died in the fire.

“I believe this is all because of jealousy and the fact that my wife is busy training to become a sangoma.”
