Neighbourhood team tidies up Montana and Pretoria North

Community-driven patrols and clean-up efforts are gaining momentum in Montana and Pretoria North, as AfriForum Noord van die Berg works to improve safety, visibility and neighbourhood pride.

Residents in Montana and Pretoria North are continuing to witness increased community-driven safety and maintenance efforts as AfriForum Noord van die Berg (North of the Mountain) intensifies its neighbourhood patrols and clean-up projects across the area.

The organisation’s neighbourhood team was recently active in Montana as part of its ongoing mission to improve safety and visibility within local communities.

The initiative forms part of AfriForum Noord van die Berg’s broader campaign encouraging residents to become involved in maintaining and protecting their surroundings.

Its members conducted clearing work at the bridge situated at President Steyn Street in Pretoria North.

The project involved removing overgrown vegetation and cleaning the area to improve visibility and reduce safety concerns often associated with neglected public spaces.

According to the organisation, regular maintenance and community involvement remain essential in ensuring that public spaces stay clean, safe and accessible for residents.

Zanell Janse van Vuuren of the AfriForum North branch said community participation plays a crucial role in sustaining these efforts.

“We believe that maintenance is one of the most important ways to protect and uplift our communities.

“When residents and organisations work together to care for public spaces, it contributes to a safer and cleaner environment for everyone,” said Janse van Vuuren.

She added that visible community involvement often discourages criminal activity and illegal dumping while helping residents regain pride in their neighbourhoods.

“Our neighbourhood team is committed to making a difference in areas such as Montana and Pretoria North.

“Whether it is patrols, clean-up projects or clearing overgrown spaces, every effort contributes towards improving the quality of life in our communities,” she said.

The organisation has also appealed to residents to support its initiatives through memberships and donations, saying community-driven projects rely heavily on public involvement and financial assistance.

AfriForum Noord van die Berg stated that neglected areas often become hotspots for crime, illegal dumping and vandalism if left unattended for long periods.

Through routine patrols and maintenance operations, the group hopes to create safer public spaces and encourage residents to become more proactive in their own neighbourhoods.

Residents who have observed the recent activities welcomed the initiative, saying cleaner environments and visible patrols contribute to a stronger sense of security.

The organisation’s Aim North campaign continues to focus on preserving, building and maintaining community spaces across northern Pretoria.

AfriForum has encouraged more residents to join the initiative and assist in expanding neighbourhood safety and environmental maintenance projects in the area.

Community members interested in supporting the project can contribute through memberships, volunteer participation or once-off donations aimed at sustaining future patrols and clean-up operations.
