Freedom park hosts story-telling festival
Freedom park hosted story-telling festival for school kids.
Hundreds of pupils from various schools around Pretoria, including special schools, recently converged at Freedom Park for a story-telling festival.
Freedom Park’s CEO Jane Mufamadi said the aim of the festival was to bring people of South Africa together, for knowledge sharing, spiritual engagement and entertainment by professional and upcoming storytellers.
“Freedom Park is a national monument positioned towards furthering the rich cultural, historical, political and spiritual needs of the people of South Africa and beyond. Storytelling is one of the mediums through which these objectives are fulfilled, in order to strengthen the national agenda of social-cohesion, reconciliation and nation-building, while emancipating the
African voice,” she said.
The festival was attended by storytelling practitioners and supporters, academics in the area of folklore, language, storytelling, culture and relevant professionals, to contribute their knowledge to assist the organisation to fulfill its responsibility towards South African, Africa and the world.
Guest speakers delivered paper presentations and engage in discussions on various topics, such as stories in conflict-resolution, storytelling in business and in social cohesion as well as integrating storytelling into modern technology.
An evening event included storytelling and artist performances.
Storytellers like Victor Khoza, Nomkhubulwane Nolazwi Mkhathini, and many others entertained guests throughout the day.
The festival was hosted at Isivivane where religious leaders of various faiths will rendered their prayers, conducted by representatives of nine religious faith groups in South Africa, which will include leaders from a number of faiths, such as Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Rastafarian, Baha’ism, Hari Krishna Faith, African Independent Churches as well as African spiritual religion.
The programme later proceeded to Salvokop residential area, where a carnival walk was presented.
