Marvellous DJ and Bongo Jazz join forces

Dynamic house music duo the Marvellous DJ and Bongo Jazzy have used their musical talents to improve their musical sounds of house music.

There is no simple way of defining house music — but this does not deter the Marvellous DJ (real name Khumo Moemise) and Bongo Jazzy (real name Donald Mongezi Simelane).

The musical duo met through a mutual friend last year when they were performing at a wedding and decided to work together.

Marvellous DJ grew up in Ga-Rankuwa then moved to the UK three years ago where he fell in love with house music.

“It was when I was studying IT at Blake Hall College in the UK three years ago when I decided to become a deejay, especially because I love the music industry,” Marvellous DJ said.

Bongo Jazzy on the other hand, started playing in church back in 2008 when he was 18-years-old in Soshanguve where he was raised.

“I fell in love with the sounds of drums, so I taught myself how to play,” Bongo Jazzy said.

Since they met, the two now play together at various venues in Pretoria such as Topflo Prestige and other venues.

They have also played alongside popular house music artists such as UHURU, Rocco, Harrison Crump, Oskido, Xoli M and more.

While the Marvellous DJ mixes the decks, Bongo Jazzy beats the drum.

They have produced a couple of songs together such as A Thousand Hearts featuring Xoli M, Don’t touch my guitar, Love so deep featuring Howard and many others.

To sustain their music careers, Bongo Jazz produces tracks and Marvellous DJ owns his own company called Marvellous Soundz, DJ Bookings and Sound Hire.

The two will also be hosting their own gig called Tshwane All Stars at Jack Budha in Mamelodi consisting of house music artists from various parts of Pretoria such as Junior Taurus and Lady Zamar, Black Motion and more.

The duo urged young people to believe in their dreams, stay focused and refrain from drug usage.

“The youth should believe in themselves and keep pushing,” Bongo Jazzy said.

“And stay away from drugs because you can be anything you want to be in life. You don’t need to use drugs in order to succeed,” Marvellous DJ added.
