Community calls for action against crime
The residents of Soshanguve Block L and its local Community Police Forum aim to stop criminals in their tracks.
Residents of Soshanguve Block L have joined hands with the local Community Police Forum (CPF) to take their fight against crime to the next level.
This after three men attacked a 19-year-old on Monday, 4 April, in the area next to the entrance to the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) and robbed him of his wallet, cellphone and laptop accessories.
Many university and Tshwane South College students on their way to school have fallen prey to robbers.
TUT student Kamogelo Pretorius said: “Motorists in a white Polo Vivo demanded laptops from the students. The two pretended to be pastors, and these attacks have angered residents, which is why they vowed to take the law into their hands.”
The CPF has scheduled a meeting with the Soshanguve police for 20 April, to discuss a strategy for dealing with the criminal activity. Residents said if the police were unable to help them, they would be forced to take the law into their hands.
But the National Institute for Crime Prevention and Rehabilitation of Offenders (Nicro) has offered to join the residents in their fight against crime.
Marumo Maleka, spokesperson for the CPF said: “For any person who becomes a victim to these nyaope boys, is requested to contact the ward councillor, Lucas Ngobeni on 083-384-8035.
“It is known the police do not have enough resources to be visible all across Soshanguve so we need residents to be their eyes and ears on the ground,”
