Pupil held over dagga muffins

An 18-year-old Soshanguve pupil arrested for selling ‘space muffins’.

An 18-year-old pupil was arrested after he was caught selling “space muffins” at his high school in Soshanguve.

He was arrested at Memezelo Secondary at Block AA in Soshanguve on Wednesday around 08:30 after a teacher raised the alarm.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Lolo Mangena said the teacher told police of a boy selling muffins mixed with dagga.

The pupil turned up at school with a bucket full of muffins and started selling them.

“One of the pupils bought the muffins and started feeling dizzy after eating them. He suspected the muffins when he started feeling unwell,” said Mangena.

“He told his teacher. They went to the boy selling the muffins, they took one muffin, and were shocked to find dagga when they opened it.”

The boy sold the muffins between R1 and R5 a piece.

Mangena said the muffins contained dagga in a baking mixture. There were also different flavours on offer.

The mixture tested positive for dagga and the boy would be charged with possession of dagga.

Mangena said some of the left-over muffins were taken for testing. Police suspected that they could have been contaminated with other substances.

The culprit had given the police a name of a man behind this activity.

“It is not the first time a pupil was arrested for trying to sell space muffins at a school in Soshanguve,” Mangena said.
