Cross dresser sends police on wild goose chase

Man dressed as woman to be charged with perjury after falsely claiming child was taken during hijacking.

A so-called child abduction after a purported hijacking in the north of Pretoria early on Thursday has turned out to be a bizarre hoax, police said.

Kameeldrift police spokesperson Major Mack Mngomezulu said the false report to the police was made by a man dressed as a woman.

“Police officers at the Kameeldrift station became suspicious when the details of the woman’s story kept changing,” he said.

“They then discovered that the woman was actually a man in a wig. He had also stuffed a bra to make it look as if he had breasts and spoke in a high pitched voice.”

The man claimed he was hijacked and his three-year-old son was abducted by three hitchhikers in the early hours of Thursday on the Moloto road, north of Pretoria.

Police posted an alert on their social networks about the abduction and a massive search for the child was launched.

Mngomezulu said the man would be charged with perjury and defeating the ends of justice and his mental state would be evaluated.
