Police stumped by Mnandi murder

Police are yet to make an arrest in the murder that destroyed a family.

Police are yet to make an arrest in the murder of Mnandi resident Mathew Morgan, who was murdered on Friday 15 April.

Police spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto said the police had not made any arrests, but were still investigating the murder.

Morgan (43), was killed in what appears to be a botched robbery on the smallholding where he lived.

Mathew had just dropped off his children around 19:45, for a movie night at his father’s house, another house on the same smallholding.

The children and Mathew’s father Douglas (72), were in the house when they heard the sound of shots gunfire around 20:15.

Other residents living on the smallholding came running out and saw several men running towards the fence. They were shot at as well. Fortunately nobody else was injured.

The family had been living on the smallholding for the past 47 years. The children all grew up on the property.

Mathew’s business partner said the regular attacks on farmers and residents of small holdings in the area were a great concern.

“It feels like we have to live in a prison just to be safe. It feels like genocide,” Douglas said.

“We just hope the police can link the weapon used to other attacks and catch these guys.”

Anyone with information on the murder can phone the Olievenhoutbosch police on 012-652-0070.
