Fast food attack video too traumatising

Assault caught on camera at McDonald’s outlet apparently shows how one man brutally attacked a couple.

The couple who was recently assaulted at a fast food outlet in Pretoria, says they have not yet seen security footage of the attack as they felt it would add to the trauma they had to endure.

James Brewer (50) and his fiancée Chantal Beyers (27) said they recently met with McDonald’s SA to discuss the event in which they were attacked last week at McDonald’s Hamilton.

“We decided not to watch the security footage of what happened right away, as we thought it might be too traumatising so soon after it happened,” Brewer told Rekord on Thursday.

He said he would watch the footage at a later stage, without Beyers, who he thought would be too upset to relive the attack.

“Apparently, it was only the one man who had attacked us. The group of people with him, who we earlier believed to be involved, just watched on as the man assaulted us,” Brewer said.

Brewer earlier told Rekord that the staff members at the fastfood outlet “had not lifted a finger to help” them.

“What the heads from McDonald’s told us is they (staff) did push a panic button in the store to alert security.”

Brewer earlier said there was a person clad in a security uniform at the outlet – who walked out as the fight started.

“Security apparently only arrived 15 minutes after the assault. We were long gone by then, and apparently they felt it unnecessary to report to the police.”

Brewer says he still suffers from internal bleeding. “The lump in my chin is still there, and I will have to go for a follow-up appointment with the doctor soon.”

He says he is still upset about the fact that the McDonald’s staff had not tried to assist them after the attack.

“I do not buy the fact that they were apparently too traumatised to help us after the attack,” he said.

“They were quick to mop up Chantal’s blood on the floor. Why couldn’t they at least offer assistance? Or called us an ambulance? Every restaurant must also have a first-aid kit ready in situations like these…”

The couple thanked McDonald’s SA for their assistance in the matter, but said they will take further steps to ensure the same does not happen again and to get justice for the violent and unnecessary attack on them.

No arrests have yet been made and the assailant remains unknown.
