Disabled Rastafarian entertains pedestrians
Disabled Rastafarian draws fans wherever he performs.
He daily sits on the sidewalks at Mabopane station, playing guitar and his talent stands out.
Gerald ‘Yogoman’ Fete from Moloto only performs for fun, but his talents are enough to attract the attention of hundreds of passers-by.
Yogoman is disabled but manages to get reach various shopping centres around Pretoria on his crutches and entertain people,.
“I do it for fun. I do it to entertain people. It brings me joy to see people enjoying what I am playing for them,” he said.
Yogoman has composed a long list of songs he sings and performs all day long.
Some of the shoppers who stopped by on Thursday afternoon to watch him play guitar and sing reggae, told Rekord that they were tempted to compare him with the late king of reggae, Lucky Dube.
“I have been singing for many years now. I draw inspiration from the fact that people appreciate what I perform. I am who I am and I don’t want to become someone or anyone else,” he said.
As a sign of appreciation, people usually give him small money donations.
“His rarities make him stand out as an artist. Pity he doesn’t have a recording company. He was sure going to make a name for himself,” said one passer-by, Jason Lubashe.
Yogaman says although he has not recorded an album, he has contributed immensely to the growth of Rastafari music industry in general.
“A section of the audience comes to the shopping complex on weekends to see me perform. Some of them follow me around,” he says.
Yogaman is regarded as one of those artists who never had an opportunity to fulfil his potential.
According to his fans, he could have contributed much more.
