Water has been restored across the city after several water interruptions this week.
Tshwane metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo confirmed on Friday afternoon, that water had been restored by midday.
“The Queenswood reservoir level has picked up after being critically low on Friday morning.”
Water interruptions started earlier this week, when Bulk Water service tested a pipeline running from Garsfontein to other parts of Pretoria.
“Bulk Water did repairs on the line and then tested it. They did not, however, warn any of the residents of these steps,” said ward councillor Frans Smith.
On Thursday morning, most of the repair work was completed and reservoirs across the city started filling up.
But residents experienced another setback in afternoon, when a major water pipeline burst in Lynnwood.
“There is now a new leak near the corner of Lynnwood Road and Rubida Street. It is a 700mm diameter steel pipe and it mainly affects Lynnwood,” said Mashigo on Thursday afternoon.
The pipe was repaired by Thursday night, after which water started filling up into reservoirs once again.
“The 700mm line was repaired and parts of Lynnwood are already receiving water. The system is filling up so in the morning [Friday] almost everyone should have water,” Lindela said on Thursday night.
Smith said the water pipe leak on Thursday, was due to high water pressure in the pipeline.
“Water was pumped into the pipes to fill up the reservoirs, but the water pressure was probably too high for the pipe too handle.”
