Pretoria patient slits own throat in hospital

He reportedly slit his throat with a razor blade while recovering from a broken arm after a car accident.

A 31-year old Pretoria man committed suicide at the Life Midmed Hospital in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, on Monday, Middleburg Observer reported.

Nkosinathi Mahlangu was recovering from a broken arm after he was involved in a car accident at the Woestalleen off-ramp, on the N4, just a week ago.

According to a reliable source, he slit his throat with a razor blade.

Life Midmed Hospital said in a statement: “We regret to confirm that a patient committed suicide in our hospital in the early hours of July 17.

“We would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere condolences to the patient’s family, and confirm that we are doing everything possible to provide support to them in this difficult time.

“In line with the National Health Act, Life Midmed Hospital is obliged to report all unnatural deaths to the South African Police Services. This process was followed and SAPS conducted an investigation.

“We can confirm that no other patients were affected.

“Life Midmed Hospital follows strict patient confidentiality protocols, in line with Life Healthcare Group policies, therefore we are not at liberty to divulge further information on the matter.”
