ANC leads Tshwane

The ANC has taken the lead in Tshwane’s local government elections.

The African National Congress (ANC) is now the front-runner in Tshwane in the 2016 municipal

election.

While ballots are still being counted, the ANC a short while ago held 43,16% of the votes as opposed

to the Democratic Alliance’s (DA) 42,63%.

However, it was unlikely that either party will receive a more than 50% majority in the metro.

This will place the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in a strong position when it comes to possible alliances.

Voter turnout in the suburbs of Tshwane was recorded at 73%, which benefitted the DA, according to political commentors.

Votes are still being counted in some of Tshwane’s township polling stations, but it is estimated that

voter turnout there was more along the national lines at about 55%.

The only other political party making inroads in Tshwane in addition to the ANC, DA and EFF, is

the Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus) which was standing at less than 2% minutes ago.
