DA in the lead in Gauteng
As vote-counting continued, the DA was in the lead in the two big metros in Gauteng.
The DA was leading in Gauteng on Thursday morning, as the counting of the votes in the local government elections continued.
In Tshwane, the DA was leading with 47,88% of the votes, followed by the ANC with 39,4% and EFF third with 8,95%.
The Electoral Commission of SA (IEC) has said it was expecting to complete the counting within 48 hours of the Wednesday elections.
By 08:00, 34% of the votes in Gauteng had been counted, mainly from smaller wards.
In Johannesburg, the DA was also in the lead with 45.46%, followed by ANC at 39,53% and again the EFF in third place with 9,42%.
For Ekurhuleni, the DA and ANC were neck-and-neck, with ANC leading with 44,3% and the DA slightly behind with 41,9%. The EFF was trailing in third place with 8,33% of the votes.
