Results for Johannesburg – still counting

Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) said that the Johannesburg voting results will only be available later.

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) announced on Saturday evening that the final Johannesburg results will only be announced later tonight.

It said that the preliminary view is that the ANC has 43.38% of the votes, DA 39.66% and EFF 10.96%.

 

In Tshwane, the DA won 93 seats,  ANC 89, EFF 25, VF+ 4, and one seat each to ACDP, COPE and PAC.

IEC CEO Glen Mashinini said during the live announcement that 213 municipalities contested in the elections. ANC achieved majority in 161 municipalities, DA 19 and IFP Inkatha in 6.

He said with the local government elections, the IEC has sent a clear message that South Africa is a thriving, vibrant and maturing democracy.
