Residents urged to store water ahead of interruptions
"Maintenance and upgrading of the water supply network will ensure that we no longer have regular pipe bursts and that everybody gets free flowing accessible water.”
The Tshwane metro has urged residents to use alternative measures ahead of Tuesday’s water supply interruptions in Pretoria.
The planned water supply interruptions will affect Pretoria Moot and tthe east.
Tshwane metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said residents must store enough water because the water interruption was expected to last until Wednesday.
“There will be interruptions from time to time so residents will not be left high and dry. In the meantime, we urge people to store and collect enough water for the next two days,” he said.
Mashigo said residents will benefit in the long run.
“We have had challenges where other Tshwane areas did not get enough water. Maintenance and upgrading of the water supply network will ensure that we no longer have regular pipe bursts and that everybody gets free flowing accessible water.”
“It may be a problem now, but we can assure you the installation of the new pipes will see a good flow in water around Tshwane,” said Mashigo.
According to Tshwane metro, the maintenance is expected to last for approximately 48 hours.
Tips to utilise water for the next few days:
– If you make tea or coffee, do not fill up the whole kettle. Only use enough water for your needs.
– Do not over-fill containers like cooking pots, which will result in more energy usage and the loss of water.
– Collect used dish washing water and reuse in the garden or for washing the car.
– Wait for the dishes to pile up before you wash them.
