Students continue protest despite police presence

“The students are waiting for five buses that are supposed to take them to the other group in Soshanguve.”

Students at Tshwane University of Technology‘s Pretoria West campus were still throwing stones and chanting on Thursday, despite a heavy police presence.

“The students are waiting for five buses that are supposed to take them to the other group in Soshanguve,” said a student, who asked not to be named.

According to the source, students were burning tyres and bins in an attempted to make their way out of their residences to join their protesting classmates in Soshanguve.

Police however, would not let the students exit their residences and continued firing rubber bullets.

The SA Students Congress (SASCO) organised a briefing condemning the protest on Thursday morning, but this was disturbed by ongoing revolts.

Private security was also on the campus to reinforce security.
