Cell tower has residents screaming bloody murder

Metro says no approved plans of the tower could be located.

Bronberick residents in Centurion say they are upset about a cellphone tower that was erected in their residential area last week.

Construction of the tower started three weeks ago and was completed last week. It is situated inside a private residential property.

One of the residents living next to the new cellphone tower, Ilonka Venter, said she was fuming because residents had not been consulted.

She described the tower as a huge disturbance and she was also afraid it might have a negative impact on her property.

“My house is my lifetime investment which I still need to pay off for 15-years. What if this thing undervalues my investment?”

Another resident, Jan Venter, said they were very negative about the tower.

“The greater community was not informed. We have a beautiful residential area and now all we can look at is this tower.”

He said they have informed their ward councillor and are waiting for his response.

Rekord has spoken to councillor Peter Sutton who said Tshwane metro was dealing with the situation.

Tshwane metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said the municipality’s building control section could not locate approved plans for the cellphone mast.

“An inspection will be conducted and a contravention notice issued, if necessary,” Mashigo said.
