The appointment of a new municipal manager for Tshwane will be postponed until early 2017, says the metro.
During a special council sitting on Wednesday, Mayor Solly Msimanga asked that the appointment process be extended by 60 days.
Lindiwe Kwele has been acting as the metro’s municipal manager since August, after the resignation Jason Ngobeni.
Msimanga said the decision was made in consultation with the MEC of cooperative governance and housing Paul Mashatile.
“We have consulted with the MEC and we agreed the appointment process must be further delayed to ensure we have the best person in charge of the city,” said Msimanga.
Msimanga said a candidate had already been identified to fill the position.
“We have already completed the process and took the candidate through psychometric tests,” said Msimanga.
“We are in the process of ensuring all is well by the time the person takes over the reigns.”
The new Tshwane metro municipal manager is expected to start on 1 April 2017.
