A newborn baby has been found dumped on the roadside in Soshanguve at Block KK

Police spokesperson Constable Herman Moremi said the baby boy was found alive in a blanket on Tuesday night.

“It was found by a passerby who heard the baby crying and immediately called the police,” said Moremi.

Moremi said the baby was uninjured but was taken to hospital for observation.

“The police opened a case of child neglect and are looking for the mother.”

Police are appealing to anyone with information to contact Captain Biloane on 071-111-8755.

Last Saturday another newborn was found dumped in a rubbish bin at Soshanguve Plaza.

The said the boy was discovered by a woman who was looking for recyclable material.

“The woman was shocked when she saw the dead newborn,” police said in a statement.

The woman immediately alerted the security guards at the complex, and the police were called in.

“We rushed to the scene and found the baby covered in blood-stained sheets,” police said.

Police suspected the baby, which weighed a healthy 3.7kg, had been dumped earlier that morning.

“An investigation is underway and we are hoping to trace the child’s mother. We believe she may have given birth close to where her baby was discovered,” police said.

“A case of concealment of birth was opened at the Rietgat police station”.
