The Tshwane west policing cluster task team recently made a breakthrough when they arrested five men during intelligence-driven operation.
Police spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto said this operation was conducted on Wednesday, 17 January in Atteridgeville.
“One of the suspects was arrested following a tip-off from the community. More information then emerged, which led to the arrest of the four others,” Moloto said.
He said the arrestees was allegedly involved in a string of hijackings of delivery vehicles in and around Atteridgeville.
“During the arrest, police recovered items such as a washing machine, refrigerator, televisions and two motor vehicle engines that were previously reported stolen.”

Moloto said the suspects were aged between 24 and 32 years.
“More arrests cannot be ruled out at this stage,” he said. The investigation is ongoing.
A case of possession of suspected stolen property and car hijacking was opened at the Atteridgeville police.
Moloto said that the suspects would appear in the Atteridgeville magistrate court soon.
