Four men were recently arrested by the Wierdabrug police over crimes of cable theft in Centurion.
Police said the men, aged between 28 and 38, had appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court and were denied bail.
Spokesperson Captain Agnes Huma said the police were alerted of the first crime by a Heuweloord security officer.
Two culprits were caught digging out cables in a veld, she said.
The second crime was at the Amberfield substation.
“A security officer on patrol saw three strangers wearing reflector jackets in the yard, carrying a plastic bag with cables.”

Huma said one of the men approached the officer while the others ran into the veld with the cables.
She said the security officer called the metro police and managed to detain two of the men.
“He parked his vehicle behind the suspects and called for assistance.”
Huma said the metro police arrested the pair and took them to the Wierdabrug police station.
A docket of malicious damage to property was opened and police were for investigating.
