Mamelodi police are concerned about the number of assaults reported to the station during the festive season.
“Assaults around liquor outlets are still a serious concern to us,” said police spokesperson Captain Johannes Maheso.
He expressed this concern at a community feedback meeting at the Tshwane Child Welfare, Mamelodi West on Wednesday, where a strategy to safeguard the community was discussed.
The meeting was part of a holiday safety initiative by the police, government communication system (GCIS), the local community policing forum and the office of consumer affairs in Gauteng and Mamelodi stakeholders’ forum.

It is aimed at educating residents on how to keep themselves safe during the holiday season.
Consumer affairs also shared consumer-wise tips to help residents make better financial decisions.
Topics such as buying on credit, lay-buys and what do when not satisfied with service were covered.
Resident Oupa Mnguni said: “I appreciated the initiative…many people are too excited during this period and end up being victims of criminals.”
