Wonderboompoort police have opened an inquest docket after a body of an elderly man was found in a stream in Mayville on Saturday morning.
According to a resident, the body was found on the corner of 3rd Avenue and De Beer street.
Residents, family and the police were involved in the search.
“A family member informed us that the deceased and his family had a party last night. During the party, the man went for a walk but never returned.”
He was found in a stream the next day and certified dead by Bestcare paramedics.
Bestcare spokesperson Rufus Engelbrecht said the body was identified by relatives living close to the place where he was found.
“At approximately 12:50 we were dispatched to a scene where a body was found in the river. We assisted SAPS with a declaration of death.”
The Wonderboomport police could not confirm the cause of death.
