Eersterust police denied social media claims that they had refused to help a boy who was allegedly raped.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Sam Shibambo said police attended to a complaint of a young boy who was allegedly raped by four boys in Highlands Park on Saturday.

“Posts on social media alleged the boy was raped by four other boys and that police refused to open a rape case and, in the process, told the child to see social workers on Monday,” Shibambo said.
“Although reports suggested police didn’t do their work, we did attend to the matter.”
Members of the family violence, child protection and sexual offences unit were called in, said Shibambo.
“They took the child to the Thuthuzela centre, where it was confirmed that the child was not raped.”
“Further investigation revealed the child was playing with his cousins and friends and that the children bruised each other while playing,” he said.
He said some of the other children also had bruises.

“None of the parents of the minors pressed any assault charges and they were referred to social workers as some of the children are already seeing social workers,” Shibambo said.
Desiree Fisher from Concerned parents Eersterust, however, said she reopened the case on Monday afternoon.
Eersterust police knew nothing of this.
“No case was opened this afternoon,” said Shibambo.
“I confirmed with the relief commander.”
Fischer maintained that the police had much to explain.
“The police involved in the case from the beginning will also have to answer to their conduct. The department of social development are also now involved and I am praying for a good outcome.”
