Seventeen people were arrested by the Pretoria Central crime prevention unit at the weekend.

They were caught over various offences, including attempted murder; possession of drugs; drunken driving; robbery; theft from motor vehicles; assault; and malicious damage to property, according to police spokesperson Sergeant Tsietsi Lamola.
Those arrested were expected to appear before court this week.
Pretoria Central police station said it had several crime awareness campaigns planned for the week.
“Our aim is to make people aware of crime within this policing area,” said station commander Brigadier Rienette Pieterse.
Last week, central police arrested 53 people on a number of charges.
