Gauteng traffic police have declared the R55 road between Laudium and the N14 freeway a no-tolerance zone for speedsters.
Spokesperson Busaphi Nxumalo said speeding was a contributing factor to fatalities on the road caused by irresponsible drivers.
On Monday evening a 52-year-old engineer from Sunderland Ridge in Centurion was arrested on the R55 near Wierda road for allegedly speeding.

Nxumalo said the man was driving at an average speed of 188km/h in an 80km/h zone in his BMW X6M series.
She said the driver claimed he was rushing to church for a prayer session and he was late.
“Unfortunately he was prevented from continuing with his journey to church and was arrested on the spot.”
The engineer was taken to the Wierdabrug police station and remains in police custody.

At the time of print, bail had not yet been determined, said Nxumalo.
She said the man was formally charged with reckless driving, alternatively, exceeding the speed limit of 80km/h.
“Drivers on the R55 be warned, the Gauteng traffic police’s high speed unit will continue to patrol this route to combat speeding,” said Nxumalo.
Nxumalo said irrespective of people’s social status, a zero-tolerance towards reckless driving will be maintained.
