Don’t fall victim to any fake job scams, thanks to these tips courtesy of PNet and Job Mail:
– If you are offered a job you haven’t applied for, without having been interviewed; then it is clearly a job scam.
– Check the email address. Job scammers tend to send emails from free providers such as Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail and so on. A real company, acting in good faith, will never use a free email provider.
– Beware of companies asking you to fax them your CV and documents. If you have applied for a job through a legitimate job board such as PNet, you will have already provided them your CV.
– If the hiring company is a real PNet client, you won’t have to resend any personal information such as your ID number, phone number, etc.
– Be careful of any company that asks you for an advance payment of any sort when applying for a job (money for flights, registration fees, etc.). Do not send them any payment. Never give out your bank details and do not provide them with any further personal information.
– Be especially cautious of work-from-home positions, where you have to pay for anything upfront.

– Look at documents you have been sent. Do they seem legitimate? Are they scanned copies or originals?
– If the company appears legitimate but you are still suspicious, get their phone number from their website and call the HR department to verify the advert.
– Google it. Run a search and see whether the same company has been involved in any job scams and what other people have to say about the company.
– If you are unsure about an offer and the employer claims to have received your details from PNet, please contact allsupport@pnet.co.za and to verify the details.
– If you see a tick sign on an advertisement on the Job Mail website, you will know that the advertisement is legit. They proofread all their ads within 24 hours to make sure users get relevant and safe content.
