Moot police recently expressed its concern over the spate of gate motor-related crimes in the area.
“There are days in which two to three such cases are reported,” said police spokesperson Captain Anton Breedt.
Breedt said police wished to start an awareness campaign involving the community to promote neighbourhood watches and patrols registered with the police and local community policing forum.
“These crimes are scattered all over the Moot and it is difficult to pinpoint to specific areas targeted by criminals,” he said.
“However, this crime is committed 24/7, with the peak time being from 22:00 to 06:00 in the morning.”

Breedt had the following safety tips on the issue:
– Attach an alarm to your gate motor unit (these devices are available at retailers in the Moot area).
– Report suspicious persons or vehicles in your area to police.
– When installing gate motors, place it in such a manner that it cannot easily be reached by criminals.
– Secure gate motors with a safety grid with decent padlocks.
