Work to complete the new water purification plant in Temba, Hammanskraal, is going ahead at full steam.
The water plant is expected to bring water to thousands of resident in areas north of Pretoria.
“We want to reduce our dependency on Rand Water,” said Tshwane MMC for utility services Darryl Moss during a visit to the plat on Monday.
“We want to make sure that we don’t end up where Cape Town is today,” Moss said, referring to the water crisis in the Mother City.

The plant is 90 percent complete and is expected to double the supply of clean, potable water to Temba and surrounding communities.
The plant will provide for additional on-site storage and replace an existing raw water pipeline.
“We made modifications to Kudube dam, upgrading the raw water and high-lift pump stations,” he said.
The new and existing plants are also to be integrated, with both plants operating on the same system.
Communities that will benefit from the Temba water treatment plant include Dilopye, New Eersterus, Temba, Babelegi industries, Marokolong, Ramotse, Majaneng, Mandela Village, Sekampaneng and Hammanskraal.
