The police are still on the hunt for robbers involved in a number of cash-in-transit heists in December and January.
The police were committed to working along with security companies to track the robbers, according to Gauteng police spokesperson Brigadier Mathapelo Peters on Tuesday.
“It cannot be the sole responsibility of the police to ensure that all cash-in-transit vehicles are safe on the road,” she said.
“The security companies also need to take measures and beef up security, because their vehicles are always on the move.”

Peters added that the police would assist security companies and were willing to support them, but stressed that the police had other responsibilities to attend to as well.
Crime activist Yusuf Abramjee said both security companies and the police needed a clever solution to stop the robberies.
Last month, a security guard was injured when a gang crashed into a cash truck in Soshanguve in an attempted robbery.

The attackers fled the scene empty-handed, but the 26-year-old guard was injured and had to be taken to hospital.
Prior to that incident, robbers blew up a cash-in-transit truck on the N14 near Eeufees Road before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.
In the second week of January, robbers forced a cash truck to stop in Hammanskraal and robbed the guards of their firearms and cash.
They fled in two vehicles, a white Mercedes-Benz and an Audi A4.
“The robbers started shooting at the van until the driver lost control,” said police spokesperson Constable Herman Moremi earlier.
“The suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. No one was seriously injured,” he said.
In December, a cash van was forced off the road in Atteridgeville following a shootout.
The shooters fled with an undisclosed amount of money.
The robberies all occurred within 10 days.
