VIDEO: Ward 47 candidate ready to serve
“I have developed a good understanding of the ward and the issues it faces."
DA ward candidate Daryl Johnston says he is ready for the mammoth task of serving the residents of ward 47 should he be elected councillor in the upcoming by-election.
Speaking at the Sunrise View Retirement Estate in Rietvalleirand, Johnston said he became involved in issues affecting the ward during former councillor Rita Aucamp’s tenure. Aucamp recently resigned due to health reasons.
Johnston said his involvement in the DA and politics started in 2011, as he wanted to make a tangible contribution. He joined the party after interacting with Aucamp on issues such as the contentious incomplete Villa Mall and other issues pertaining to the ward.

He has served on both the branch and ward advice committee; party agent at IEC registration weekends; voting captain for the choose life voting station in Moreleta Park in the 2014 and 2016 elections; and as a delegate at the regional and provincial congresses.
“Through my involvement, I have developed a good understanding of the ward. I am familiar with most of the issues that this ward faces and am ready to take charge,” said Johnston.
With ward 47 having a high number of residents, including areas such as Elardus Park, Wingate Park, Moreleta Park and Rietvalleirand, Johnston said that he – as DA candidate – stands for open, honest and effective governance and effectively serve each resident diligently.
He said the DA’s efforts are finally coming to fruition with the replacement of a pipeline in De Villebois Road, Boeing Road finally being repaired and the contentious Villa Mall.
This should be proof enough to voters, come 25 April, to vote DA so they can work to bear more fruit.
DA shadow minister of public enterprises Natasha Mazonne said that the DA knows the plight faced by the ward, such as electricity outages and roads plagued by potholes.
Mazonne added that residents should have full faith in Johnston to steer and serve the people of ward 47 going forward.
