The quick response by a security company in the east of Pretoria led to the arrest of a burglar on Sunday.
Reg Crewe from High Risk Unit said this follows after one of their clients from Monument Park spotted a man in their yard.
“They recognised him as the same man who had broken in earlier in the year,” he said.
“This specific man stole thousands of rands of electronic devices.”
Crewe said after the domestic worker saw the man, she immediately pressed the panic button.
He said armed response officers arrived at the home around 10:37, and chased the suspect who fled on foot towards the R21 highway.
The man was apprehended in Makou Street at around 10:43 by two of High Risk’s armed response units, with the domestic worker in attendance.
The suspect was arrested by the police, and taken to Brooklyn police station.
“While detaining the suspect at the scene, an angry crowd of domestic workers gathered, expressing that they were tired of being targeted and attacked daily by thugs,” said Crewe.
Police could not respond for comment at the time of going to press.
