A total of 28 people were arrested this past week in the Moot, nearly half of them for traffic violations.
Of these arrests, 13 were for violations of the road traffic management act.
“Quite a number of motorists have been detained for driving without a valid driver’s licence,” said Wonderboompoort police spokesperson Constable Mandlakayise Zwane.
“Some were detained for skipping traffic lights.”
Zwane said the continued visibility of the police on public roads is to ensure public order and adherence to all the laws in this country. This included the traffic road management act.

“Some drivers drive recklessly without any regard for the law and other road users,” he said.
He said Wonderboompoort police, in partnership with other law enforcement agencies within their policing precinct, will continue to frown upon anyone that violates the law and unnecessarily put the lives of others at risk.
“We urge all road users, regardless of the mode of transport they use, to always conduct themselves within the confinements of the law and to do so in a responsible manner,” he said.
“Public roads are for us all and they must be used in a responsible manner to avoid unnecessary accidents and unnecessary loss of lives.”
Zwane said the following arrests were made from 15 to 24 July:

– Three people were arrested for being under intoxication.

– One was arrested for common assault and another person was arrested for a business burglary.
– Three people were arrested for driving without a licence.
– Three pedestrians were arrested for being a source of danger.

– Five people were arrested for skipping a red traffic light.
– One was arrested for the obstruction of traffic flow and another person was arrested for fraud.
– Two people were arrested for being in the possession of drugs and one was arrested for being in the possession of dagga.
– Another two people were arrested for shoplifting and one person was arrested for urinating in public.

Zwane urged residents to work together with the police to help curb crime.
